These
courses cover subjects that are tangentially related to flight
test but would be of interest to more than just test pilots.
Any pilot who finds himself outside his aircraft's normal
operating envelope, intentionally or inadvertently, would benefit
from the upset and spin training programs. The
formation/low-level/chase program would benefit pilots whose job
requires these specialized skills. There is no minimum
experience level or special rating required attending any of these
courses.
Upset Training
(2 days)
This course familiarizes the pilot with what to expect under upset
conditions. It is well suited to those who have not flown in
aircraft that are cleared for inverted flight or that can depart
controlled flight.
This
training consists of 3 hours of classroom instruction, one hour of
ejection seat familiarization, and one flight in the Aermacchi MB
326 "Impala" aircraft. The course can be completed in
one day, however we prefer to give the academics and ejection seat
training one afternoon followed by the flight the next morning.

Spin Training
(2 days)
This
course familiarizes the pilot with the unique environment of an
aircraft in a classic spin. Upright and inverted spins are
demonstrated and practiced with both pro-spin and anti-spin
control inputs. Different recovery techniques are practiced
and evaluated. This course would be beneficial for a test
pilot or acrobatic pilot who will be accomplishing intentional
spins or any pilot who might inadvertently encounter a spin.
The first day consists of four hours of classroom instruction, one
hour of ejection seat familiarization, and two hours of cockpit
familiarization. The second day consists of three spin
flights; one in a Blanik L-13 glider, one in a DHC-3 Chipmunk, and
one in a MB-326 Impala.

Formation / Low-Level / Chase Training
(2 days)
This
course introduces the pilot to the special requirements of these
unique flight conditions. The course consists of three hours
of classroom instruction, one hour of ejection seat
familiarization, one flight in a DeHavilland Chipmunk and one
flight in a MB-326 Impala. The instruction and flight can cover
all three of the subjects or can be focused on any area a
particular student desires. The course would be beneficial
to any pilot whose job requires formation, low-level, or chase
flight.
