Course Description
During the course, ground and flight evaluations will be conducted using an operationally representative NVIS-modified aircraft. After being given an evaluation assignment, the student will develop data cards for both laboratory and flight evaluations. For the laboratory evaluation the student will set-up test equipment, gather data, and analyze the findings. The findings will be used to structure the flight evaluation, which will be conducted by an NVIS test pilot. After completion of all testing, the student will analyze the data, determine conclusions and recommendations, and report the findings.
Pre-requisites
T&E 4208
Texts and Reference Materials
MIL-L-85762A
MIL-STD-3009

NTPS Master Briefing Guide
Anticipated Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course of instruction, the student will be familiar with:
1. NVIS quantitative and qualitative test equipment and procedures
2. NVIS test methods and rationale for conducting ground and flight evaluations of NVIS compatible
interior lighting (daylight readability, unaided nighttime readability, NVG-aided visual acuity, control functionality)
3. NVIS test methods and rationale for conducting ground and flight evaluations of NVIS exterior lighting (effects on NVGs inside and outside the cockpit, control functionality, tactical suitability)
4. NVIS test methods and rationale for conducting NVG hardware evaluations (image performance, adjustments and controls, helmet integration, compatibility with other pilot equipment)
5. NVIS test methods and rationale for conducting the integration of NVGs in an aircraft (stowage, obstructions to scan, effects of transparencies)
6. Gathering NVIS data, analyzing the findings, arriving at conclusions and recommendations, and reporting the results.
The student will understand:
7. Techniques for evaluating an NVIS modified aircraft
